The last two years have wrought incredible changes on the world of work. Companies have changed their business models, jobs have been reimagined, systems and processes have been re-engineered or replaced, and employee expectations have shifted dramatically. Michelle Braden

Vice President, Global Talent Development, Wex

Michelle Braden is passionate about learning and development and about using her business-savvy and leadership expertise to look beyond typical adult learning strategies and toward innovative talent development approaches that drive true business impact. She is laser-focused on enabling team members of WEX to grow as individuals and professionals in their careers, while delivering upon business goals and providing world-class services and solutions in the financial technology industry.

Michelle recently left TELUS International after serving as their chief learning officer and vice president of global learning excellence for six and a half years. There, along with her globally based team, Michelle built a multi-award-winning learning strategy, which has fundamentally changed how the organization built and maintained a robust leadership pipeline to support its fast growth while providing team members with a comprehensive learning journey throughout their TI career.

With 25 years of successful management experience in and around leadership and talent development, instructional design and development, information technology, and sales domains in companies that include Xerox and SAP, Michelle understands the impact that proficient and fulfilled employees have on engagement, attrition, and business performance. Michelle has an MBA with a leadership specialty and a BA in management and communication with a minor in information technology.


Lisa Cairns
Lisa Cairns

Director of Learning & Development, Smith & Associates

Lisa Cairns currently serves as the director of learning and development at Smith, where she developed Smith University by architecting, designing, overseeing unique content creation, and enhancing talent development for all of Smith’s global offices, operations, and distribution hubs. In 2019, Smith University earned a bronze award in Chief Learning Officer magazine’s LearningElite awards, just nine months after its inaugural launch. Prior to this position, Lisa served in many roles for Smith and Smith-affiliated entities, including chief strategy officer for ZettaWorks and vice president of ecostrategy for ONTILITY.

Before her long tenure at Smith, Lisa was a professor of linguistic anthropology and taught at several higher education institutions, including Texas A&M University, the University of Michigan, Northwestern University, and her alma mater, the University of Chicago. Lisa earned her PhD and AM in linguistics from the University of Chicago, during which time she was awarded the prestigious National Science Foundation Doctoral Dissertation Research Improvement Grant. She holds a BA from Hofstra University, where she was Hofstra’s first woman undergraduate to be awarded a Fulbright-Hayes Grant for independent research prior to attending graduate school.


Philip Zoller
Philip Zoller

Vice President, Talent Management, Florida Blue

Philip Zoller is Florida Blue’s vice president of talent management. In this role, Zoller has accountability for talent acquisition, functional and operational training, succession planning, employee development, and leadership and executive development for the company. Prior to joining Florida Blue in 2009, Philip served in leadership roles at Convergys and Triton Solutions. He most recently served as vice president of enterprise learning and development in the organization’s HR department.

Throughout his career, he has been active in community and professional organizations. He has served in various board roles and recently served as an executive board member for the Boy Scouts of America (North Florida Council). Additionally, he is a member of the University of North Florida’s Continuing Education Advisory Council and Health Administration Leadership Institute, a member and past president of the International Society for Performance Improvement, and member of the Association for Talent Development. He holds a master of science degree in instructional systems from Florida State University and a bachelor’s degree in business administration and management from Edward Waters College.


John Cone'
John Cone'

Principal Catalyst, the 11th Hour Group

John Coné has worked in talent development for more than 40 years. During that time, he’s served as a chief learning officer (CLO), a vice president of HR, on the boards of nonprofit and for-profit learning companies and organizations—including ATD, and as a consultant and advisor to CLOs at more than a dozen major companies and to the federal government. He writes and speaks on issues of talent development, with emphasis on strategy, the implications of technology, and the future of learning. He chairs the chief learning and talent officers board for the Institute for Corporate Productivity. He serves as catalyst of Chief Talent Development Officer (CTDO) Next, and in this role, he facilitates a think-tank approach to the network’s applied thought leadership.
